"Mighty men of the East return... Men of the sea... Men of cold ruthless steel... Hatholrim...."
-Lore-
It is unknown, even to the elders of Hatholwaith themselves, where their people originated from, but they were masters of the sea, settled many islands East of Middle-earth, and soon came to inhabit much of the North-eastern coast. Conquering those who opposed them, over time they established a large kingdom encompassing much of the Uttermost East, and the many islands off the coast. Over that time period, many people began transitioning to the land permanently, domesticating animals, farming, and creating large structures of stone, though they still have great naval power in the area.
To the North were the cold wastelands of Forodwaith, to the West, the Red Mountains, to the East, the Ocean, and none to the South dared challenge them. Relatively undisturbed by foreigners due to their isolation, they advanced in knowledge and skills not otherwise possible. Still masters of the sea, they regularly explored further and further East, establishing colonies on hospitable islands able to sustain them.
The Hatholrim maintained good trade and relations with the Dwarves of the Red Mountains, sometimes learning from them and their massive halls of stone. Supplying the dwarves with wheat, livestock, and other things from the surface, in return they were supplied with exceptional dwarvish masonry work, armor, and weapons. At times their ships would sail south, returning with goods and tales from strange lands beyond their borders.
