i noticed in the rules there isn't exactually a rule based on taking builds over but when asked it seems there is with a more or less "Ask the owner" . so im here today to suggest or imply that there should be some sort of cut off to the "ask" period, cause yes while I understand people have lives/other things and such that there is also a point where old builds/ abandoned ones should either be deleted to make room and help server stability or for new players to build there or in other cases move in, that's why I suggest either a 5-6 month Inactive timer, meaning if you haven't touched the server in that long and a new player comes along and finds the build and its either unbannered or the bannerer hasnt been on in 5-6 months it be passed along. Cause just holding builds forever for a person who may never come back just seems fool hardy in my opinion if they havent given staff a reason for disapearance and just vanished.

Noble,
First of all, we do appreciate your suggestion and use of the forums. It is an interesting idea, one that has been brought up in the past as well, yet it has not been implemented for several reasons. The discussion in the discord definitely shed some light on a bunch of those reasons, but to summarize; we think it is unfair for players to return to their TOR experience, no matter how big or small, and to find most (if not all) their progress gone or owned by another. Repurposing builds of others for yourself is not something that we as staff will ever enforce. However, you can always ask the build's owner for permission, most players within the community are well connected with each other and very rarely will you be unable to find the original builder. With permission, we as staff can handle the details of the build transfer, and all would be well.
As for server performance and old builds gathering dust, even though it is true sometimes certain builds will stand in your way of the perfect spot and have been standing there for years. We will not be removing those, not without reason that is. In the case of server performance, we try and do 2 map resets a year, that means that every chunk gets restored, except the ones manually saved by users. Therefore, performance wise old builds are not affecting us as of yet, if they will I'll be sure to reopen this discussion personally.
However, as most things in TOR, it's not all black and white. We as a staff team we make exceptions to the rule for the sake of the playerbase on a daily basis (that's more of a phrase since we rarely need to :^))). If you do find a build in your way, if the owner is truly missing in action and he hasn't been around for a while, we might be able to help. Naturally, this is no guarantee as there are many things to take into consideration when taking such a decision. Do remember that it's rarely ever relevant. However, as you did mention that a dirt hut could be in your way owned by a player that hasn't logged in for years, we are lenient and we understand such troubles like no other. They're all fun hypotheticals, as I said prior, but when any of this does apply to you, send a message to the staff team or create a ticket and we'll see what we can do!
Big M.
